Synopsis
Lily is 25, pale, beautiful and intense. When she meets Marcus at a trendy London art gallery she is drawn to him instantly, and, charmed into his bed, Lily spends a passionate first night with him. Waking in his cavernous home Lily is thrilled by her charismatic new lover.
But then she finds a room... Almost a shrine full of a woman’s belongings. She asks Marcus who they belong to. A girlfriend? Marcus is instantly contrite. He should have thrown those things away, he tells her, they belonged to Sinead, his girlfriend, who... He stops. She’s not here any more. She’s... Lily reaches out to Marcus in his grief. She already knows that she’s irrevocably in love with him; and when he asks her to take Sinead’s old room and move in with him, she finds it impossible to refuse.
Lily moves into the flat, an act which seems to anger her other new flatmate Aidan, Marcus’ best friend. Aidan is out most of the time, and Lily and Marcus quickly begin a ferocious sexual relationship. But Lily is soon frightened – Marcus won’t tell her anything about the girl who died; and she is starting to see her ghost everywhere. In the bathroom. In the bedroom while they make love. In mirrors. On the street. Lily is being haunted, and she cannot shake it off.
Finally, Lily tries to find out what happened to Sinead, but to no avail. Her best friend Sarah tries to help, but when they discover there isn’t even a coroner’s report on her death they both become suspicious. Marcus is often brutish and violent – could he possibly be behind Sinead’s death? Lily can’t bear to think about it, but when the haunting reaches fever pitch and she’s caught in the flat on her own during a power cut, with Sinead’s ghost appearing in front of her seemingly intent on doing her harm, she realises she can’t take it anymore. She tries to leave – but her keys are hidden, left in a mug on the windowsill marked with an ominous black ‘S’. Lily ransacks Marcus’ room until she finds a letter marked to Sinead Wilson at a university, and she heads out to find out what has happened to her...

My Lover’s Lover is based on the best selling novel of the same name by Maggie O’Farrell. The script has been developed with the award winning Irish director Neasa Hardiman (whose directing credits include Irish television hits Fair City and School Run) and is easily adaptable to be set in any major city around the world.
